MIYAZAKI Katsumi, Professor of Showa University of Music, was born in 1952 in Saitama, Japan. He is an art historian and art critic specialized above all in cultural exchange in modern era whose publications include Japonisme: Japan as a Boom (Kodansha, 2018), The Reception of Western Paintings: Japanese enchanted by Monet, Renoir, and Cézanne (Nihon Keizai Shinbun Shuppansha, 2007), Renoir in his Youth (Rikuyosha, 2002). More than a decade he was chief curator of the Bridgestone Museum of Art (renamed in 2020 Artizon Museum) where he curated exhibitions such as Renoir: From Outsider to Old Master, 1870-1892 (2001), Monet: A Retrospective (1994). He also played a central role in founding the exhibition VOCA (The Vision of Contemporary Art) held annually since 1994 at the Ueno Royal Museum.
